Hoy-Scott Watershed Society recognized at City of Coquitlam Environment Awards

Hoy - Scott Watershed Society attended the annual City of Coquitlam's Environmental Achievement Awards on June 13th, 2105 which recognize individuals, organizations and educators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to promoting, conserving and enhancing Coquitlam’s natural environment.

HSWS was recognized in the 'group' category for work in their salmon enhancement program, habitat restoration, and public education efforts.

Maya Uno, a youth member of HSWS was acknowledged for her work with the Society.  Earlier in 2015, Mia organized a half-day field trip to the watershed, where she and fellow-students learned about the salmon and the enhancement program with hands-on actives. They also learned about invasive and non-invasive plants species and did some planting along Hoy Creek.

Robbin Whachell, who serves as a HSWS director and public relations volunteer was also acknowledged for her work in promoting the Society in all its many facets. She was instrumental in creating their Facebook page, a newsletter, and new website, Google+, Youtube, and Twitter accounts.

Held at the Dogwood Pavilion, the awards event is an annual one featuring dinner, awards, and musical entertainment provided by the City. A great time was had by all.
